There were at least 300 people waiting to speak with potential employers Friday morning, said the organizers of a Job Fair at The Shops at Nanuet.
The new stores in this rebuilt Clarkstown mall, formerly the Nanuet Mall, are not only intended to expand shopping options, but produce hundreds of jobs.
And between June and July 2013, New York State’s unemployment rate remained unchanged at 7.5 percent. This represents its lowest level of employment since February 2009, according to New York State Department of Labor figures released Aug. 15. In Putnam-Westchester Rockland counties private sector jobs rose 1.8 percent from July 2012 to July 2013.
“There were at least 300 people lined up when we got here this morning,” a spokesman for Simon Properties said late afternoon on Friday.
The Shops at Nanuet, an under construction open-air mall on Route 59, is nearly ready for an October grand opening even though two anchor stores, Macy’s and Sears, are already operating. On Friday roughly 25 stores conducted interviews with potential employees for jobs in entry-level retail and sales to management positions.
The event runs from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Comfort Inn and Suites, 425 Route 59 in Nanuet.
“Our ultimate goal with hosting the Job Fair is to make connections between the exciting stores that will make up the retailer mix at The Shops at Nanuet and job seekers in Rockland County looking for a future in retail,” Ryan Hidalgo, the shopping center’s general manager said in a statement.
Retailers participating include Macy’s, Sears, Bonefish Grill, Sur La Table, Zinburger Wine & Burger Bar, Fairway Market, The Limited, Michael Kors, Sephora, European Wax Center, Paper Source, Kay Jewelers and Allied Barton Security Services.
The 66,000-square-foot mall is owned and was developed by Simon Properties and this is its first project in Rockland County.
