Oh, Bedford. You could have been a contender.
Alas. Money magazine has named Scarsdale as the number one in the top-earning towns the U.S. with a median family income of $291,542. The list of 25 towns, which also includes Rye at No. 10, is part of the magazine’s Best Places to Live issue.
The magazine credits “well-off commuters who appreciate the quick half-hour train ride into Manhattan” for choosing to settle in the village for its great schools and “appealing downtown peppered with Tudor-style buildings.”
Rye, with its median family income of $221,457, was noted for its small-town feel and its waterfront. Money magazine also referenced “a downtown restaurant with great oysters,” which we suspect could be Ruby’s Oyster Bar & Bistro (but might also be Morgans Fish House).
Other area towns on the list include Ridgewood, N.J. and Weston and New Canaan in Connecticut.
