Thinking of putting a mail slot in the front door of your new home? Maybe you should reconsider. New homes with new addresses might not be eligible for this service in the coming years.
The United States Postal Service might end home delivery for new addresses and actually phase out door-to-door delivery by 2022.
The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee is reviewing this and other cost-saving changes which is said could add up to billions of dollars a year. An alternative to the current system would be to have the postal service deliver mail to curbside boxes or clustered mail centers, according to numerous media reports including this one from CNBC and the Associated Press.
