NAI Friedland, a leader in the sale, leasing and development of commercial property in the New York metro area particularly in Westchester County, just got a bit larger. The company, headquartered in Yonkers, is merging with Benson Commercial Realty in Tarrytown and Greenwich, Conn.
In announcing the move Thursday morning at a business networking breakfast in Stamford, Conn., Scott Benson (photo,right), who founded and led Benson realty, said he would become president of the enlarged NAI firm. He is expected to serve as a visionary in expanding the company.
Both companies are privately owned.
“I’ve known Scott professionally for 27 years and hold him in the highest regard,” said Robert Friedland, founder of NAI Friedland, in an email this afternoon. “At this stage of my company’s lifecycle, it is time for a dynamic real estate professional such as Scott to step in as the visionary and transform our company.” Friedland will remain the company’s chairman of the board.
Founded in 1970, NAI Friedland is part of an international network with 5,000 staffers, 325 offices in 55 counties. The company has divisions for retail, industrial, office space and development/redevelopment. Anthony Lembeck joined the company in 1995 and was appointed NAI Friedland’s chief operating officer in April 2009 and chief executive officer in 2010. He will remain in that position.
Benson founded BCR in 1988. By 2010, his firm had completed in excess of 2,400 transactions with an aggregate value of close to $1 billion, said a press release this week. Current clients include prestigious clients includes many of the nation’s and worlds premier company’s including IBM, CVS, Motorola, Mitsubishi, Acordia Therapeutics, Hitachi, MTA, New York Life, Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, Akzo Chemical, Symm’s, Nextel, Corporate Express, Travelers, Xerox and Metropolitan Life.
In addition to property sales and leases the company also provides property management services.
