Twin Ponds in the news

Back before Christmas, we blogged a wish list of some holiday bonus homes and high on that list was Twin Ponds, which was for sale for $30 million.

Then Devonshire, a nearby 100 acre estate in Bedford Corners section of North Castle grabbed headlines as the largest single residential sale in Westchester County history. Devonshire, as it’s called, sold to an undisclosed buyer for $21.5 million.

“Obviously in this price range there aren’t that many transactions,” said Anthony P. Cutugno, senior vice president at Houlihan Lawrence, which represented both sides of the deal.

Well, count in Twin Ponds, which is poised to potentially break that record. This is an absolutely stunning contemporary home in Bedford Hills, seen here: [1]

The 21.7 acre property has two large ponds, hence the name, one of which is actually underneath the home.

Built in 1983, the 3,600-square-foot house owned by Marvin Schwartz, managing director and portfolio manager at Neuberger Berman Europe Limited, and his wife, Donna, has been featured in “Architectural Digest.” It’s filled with floor to ceiling windows to take in the amazing gardens and landscaping, which include Japanese gardens, specimen plantings, and an outdoor pool.  The estate was designed by Robin Roberts, the late head of Manhattan-based design firm Clarence House. Milton Klein was the architect and Jay Spectre and Geoffrey Bradfield did the interior design.
The New York Post has reported that the couple never actually LIVED in the house, however, preferring another residence they own nearby.
According to nypost.com “It’s a great home for entertaining,” Donna says of the house, which features a climate-controlled wine cellar and tasting room in the basement.”

The home and its grounds were built over 20 years by Roberts, who created the weekend retreat with just two bedrooms. At his death, the home was listed for $16 mllion, then a record price for a home in Westchester. How history does repeat itself. Here is a shot from the amazing gardens, shot in 2004
